Net Worth Tracker, Asia Edition

By wealthmindtools.com Team ·

Most net worth calculators ignore CPF and EPF entirely, which makes them close to useless if you're in Singapore or Malaysia. This one puts them front and centre. Fill in what you know, estimate the rest, and come back to update it whenever you like. Your figures stay in this browser and go nowhere else.

How Does the Net Worth Tracker Work?

Net worth is simply what you own minus what you owe, and this tool calculates it live as you type. The assets section covers CPF Ordinary, Special, and MediSave accounts, EPF, cash and savings, investments, property, and anything else. The liabilities section covers home loans, car loans, credit card debt, student loans, and other debt. A currency toggle switches between SGD and MYR.

Most net worth calculators leave CPF and EPF out entirely, which makes them close to useless in Singapore and Malaysia, where those balances are often the single largest asset a person holds. Here they sit at the top of the list. As figures go in, the tool also shows your debt-to-asset ratio and a breakdown chart of where your assets actually sit. Everything stays in this browser and nothing is transmitted anywhere.

How to Use Your Net Worth Results

Treat the headline figure as a starting position rather than a score. A negative or small net worth early in a working life is ordinary, particularly with a mortgage or student loan in the mix, and the number on its own says nothing about whether your finances are well run. What matters more is the direction it moves over time and the composition underneath it.

Two things in the breakdown are worth more attention than the total. The first is your debt-to-asset ratio, which tells you how much of what you own is genuinely yours. The second is liquidity: CPF and EPF balances count fully toward net worth but cannot be drawn on for an emergency, so a high total can coexist with real short-term fragility. Financial wellbeing is about more than a single figure, as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau sets out in its research on measuring whether people can meet current obligations, feel secure about the future, and still make choices they enjoy. Update the tracker quarterly rather than weekly, since the trend is the informative part.

One caution worth stating plainly about the CPF and EPF figures. Both are retirement systems with restrictions on when and how balances can be withdrawn, and the rules differ by account type, by age, and by purpose. Counting them at full value gives an accurate picture of your long-term position and an over-optimistic picture of your available resources today. If you are using this tracker to decide whether you can absorb a job loss or a medical bill, look at the cash and savings line on its own and treat the retirement balances as a separate question entirely. Verify any figure that matters against your official statements rather than an estimate typed in here.
